Sommelier Wine Awards postponed

We, the Sommelier Wine Awards (SWA) team, consider ourselves very lucky that we were able to run our 2020 competition as planned, and awarded the very best wines available to the on-trade.

We hoped we'd be able to do the same since, but after much consideration, it is with heavy hearts that we have made the decision to postpone the competition until further notice.

The hospitality industry and its many suppliers have been incredibly hard hit and continue to face significant disruption. Throughout 2020, businesses and consumers alike have been forced to adapt and the Covid-19 pandemic has led to fundamental changes in behaviour which has seen a big shift in the way that people purchase and consume wine in both the on- and off-trade.

We understand how important it is for the wine industry to support sales through accolades, however, we also know that this must be done to the highest standard. Given the ever-changing situation, we want to be able to offer our customers the best possible opportunity to promote their wines.

While we are disappointed the competition this year cannot go ahead as planned, we are working with our partners to bring a showcase of wines to Imbibe Live, taking place on 4-5 July 2022 at Olympia London, where the industry will reunite. SWA will once again invite our invaluable team of judges, and wider wine community to taste together - as it should be.

In the meantime, we will continue to raise the profile of the wonderful producers who enter from around the world, and those in the on-trade innovating through their wine lists on our website.

Our team will continue to share news, events and useful information and please let us know if you have anything you think deserves to be shared more widely.

We'd like to thank all of our customers, judges, partners and wider hospitality community for their support, and we look forward to seeing you all at Imbibe Live in July.
