Sommelier Wine Awards, the only wine competition judged by the on-trade and run in conjunction with Imbibe, is back and open for entries.

Making a name for itself as a barometer for trends within the wine industry, the Sommelier Wine Awards has previously highlighted such movements as Australian cool-climate Chardonnay and English sparkling wine before they were on everyone's lips.

As always, entries will be put through their paces by a top panel of judges, including Christine Parkinson, head of wine for the global Hakkasan Group, global on-trade consultant Annette Scarfe MW, Andrés Ituarte, Head Sommelier at Coq d’Argent and Charlie Young, Owner of wine bar group, Vinoteca.

Entering the competition is simple - follow our top tips to make it as easy as possible to submit a winning entry...

- First of all, take a look at our entry pack for 2019, with all key dates and information you need to know.

- Start uploading your entry early - you can always save them to your Wine Portfolio and return to it whenever you like.

- Make sure you've fully considered which categories you need to enter your wines into and check the eligibility.

- If you've entered wines in the past, revisit your Portfolio and re-enter, follow this step-by-step guide - simple!

- If you're a supplier - co-ordinate your own entry if you can, OR inform the producers you distribute with early and they can enter for you.

- Enter the kind of wines that sommeliers like to see. Think of food-friendliness throughout. Value for money is more important than sheer bling.

- For those entering from outside the UK, confirm your wine's trade price with your UK distributor. Wines with no UK distribution are welcome to enter. See here for what price to submit.

- Keep an eye on all key deadlines, you'll find them all here

Finally, after uploading your wines, don’t forget to submit them for entry! Of course, if you’d like any assistance with your entry please do get in touch, any time - swa.helpline@reedexpo.co.uk

Good luck!
