Bibendum takes on 13 European wineries

SWA 2017 Merchant of the Year, Bibendum, has taken on the agency for 13 new wineries, adding over 100 extra wines to its portfolio in the process.

Already one of the largest and most influential players in the UK on-trade, the new arrivals for Bibendum include Weingut Johann Baptist Schäfer from the Nahe, Weingut Glatzer from Carnuntum, Château d’Arche from Sauternes and Puglia’s Masseria Li Veli.

The new arrivals mark a continued move towards smaller, often European, wine estates, which has been the company’s stated strategy for several years, and which helped it to win a record number of Gold Medals in the competition last year.

Simon Jerrome, head of wine buying for Bibendum, said: ‘We’re very excited to be introducing some inspirational new producers to the portfolio, with a fantastic mix of new wines from Bordeaux and Languedoc, to Puglia and Rheinhessen.’
