After Chablis’ record-breaking effort last year, built on the beautiful 2012 vintage, it was back to normality this year. Still, our tasters were happy with what they found, and while the dearth of genuinely cheap medal winners was depressing (well done Louis Moreau and Kingsland), there were no doubts raised about this region’s bankability.

The perfect Chablis for gastropubs and neighbourhood restaurants, this kicks off with inviting aromas of orchard and blossom. ‘Classic lime and mineral profile, with notes of elderflower, apples and pears on the palate. Good by the glass,’ said Caroline Brangé of 28°-50° Mayfair, with Andrea Fasan of La Petite Maison adding: ‘Clean and crisp, juicy and long.’

Classic minerality and rich mid-palate set this apart. ‘Intense, leesy nose with yellow apple notes, a high level of minerality on the palate, and good acidity keeping freshness in a rich palate,’ said Gareth Ferreira of Launceston Place. ‘Vibrant nose, very peachy on the palate, with a beautiful texture,’ added Debbie Smith of 21212.
