Suppleness and subtlety helped Cavit scoop Gold with its Principato – and a coveted By The Glass spot. Riccardo Guzzardo of The Gilbert Scott found ‘interesting, floral notes of rose petals and little hints of spice’ on the nose, while team leader Jade Koch noted ‘apple, orange, clean minerality on an oily, textured, dry palate’, and Paolo Pivato of Luton Hoo Hotel Golf & Spa summed it up: ‘Ideal as an aperitif, pleasant and great value for money.’
£5.00 Molson Coors
Wonderful aromatics and bags of flavour won Finca Las Moras a coveted By The Glass spot as well as Gold. ‘Interesting floral, geranium notes on the nose, with grapefruit hints, good minerality and sweetness on a fresh palate, and mint and cumin notes on the finish,’ said Giuseppe Longobardi of The Cross at Kenilworth. Pair with flat fish with grapes or herbs.
£5.21 Bibendum
Evocative aromas, a textured palate and a great price, gave this a By The Glass trophy as well as Gold. ‘A more restrained style, with good structure and balance, still a big wine but tangy fruit is appealing, with decent length,’ said Richard Brooks of Caroline Catering.'Blackurrant and violets on the nose, this has nice fine tannins, and a bitter coffee finish,' said Maxwelll Allwood of Alimentum, suggesting venison haunch as a food match.
£7.33 Berkmann Wine Cellars
An expressive bouquet of leather, cigar box and spicy fruit illustrated why the Haute Marone picked up a By The Glass gong as well as Gold. ‘Vibrant, spicy, very approachable but big enough to impress,’ said Sandro Lyhs of Oxo Tower Bar, while team leader Annette Scarfe MW found: ‘Floral notes and ripe fruit, with spice on a warm finish.’
£7.25 Boutinot
Elegance alongside an appealing, dry palate marked this Prosecco out for the top. It has lemon candy and orange rind notes, and Matteo Malquori of Hakkasan Hanway Place highlighted this wine’s ‘green apples, elegant mousse, refreshing acidity and long, balanced finish’, while team leader Simon Woods added: ‘Ripe, but has crisp red apple alongside pineapple and pear.’
£8.35 Moreno Wines, Try Wines
Freshness and lightness plus clarity of zesty flavours and sweet spices gave Errazuriz a coveted By The Glass spot as well as Gold. ‘Very intense nose with aromas of marmalade, peach and apricots, complemented by perfect acidity on the palate,’ said Alejandro Icart of Fera at Claridge’s. ‘Classic sweet style with honey, lemons and rich, ripe apricots,’ agreed Jonathan Kleeman of The Ritz Hotel. Pair with passion fruit cheesecake. £5.93/37.5cl

More fantastic value from Pamukkale gave this not just Gold but a By The Glass trophy.'This has a lovely soft tannin structure, and is packed with red berry fruit,' said a happy Annette Scarfe MW, team leader. While noting that the nose was a little 'restrained', Frédéric Jean-Yves Billet of Luton Hoo Hotel Golf & Spa highlighted this wine's 'long finish, good fruit and spice'. Match with confit of duck.
£5.00 Anatolian Foods
Superb value once more from Colombo & Fille. Little wonder this scored a By The Glass award too.'Intense, focused and concentrated nose of beautiful melon, ripe peach and pear fruit, with delicate blossom notes,' said Stuart Skea of Champany Inn & Wine Cellars, 'Very Mediterannean in character. Match with sword fish and crevettes.' Team leader Simon Woods added: ‘Intense, heady honeysuckle and pear, with notes of peach and halva.’
